Learning

Our learners are registered through Impaq's CAPS-based homeschooling programme, allowing them to work towards their National Senior Certificate while receiving daily academic support at MonteNova Academy.

Structured daily academic support

At MonteNova Academy, we provide a structured daily learning framework designed to help learners stay focused, get organised and feel supported.

Each day follows a planned learning schedule of focused sessions, allowing learners to engage deeply with their subject content while avoiding cognitive overload and too many unnecessary transitions.

3 focused learning sessions a day

Each subject runs two sessions a week:

Tutor-led session

Content is explained, discussed and unpacked with the guidance and support of a tutor and subject specialist.

Guided self-study session

Learners work independently on assigned tasks, revision or assessments while still being supervised and supported.

Both sessions are fully integrated into the daily schedule, so all study time is planned and organised. MonteNova provides the structure, pacing and consistency while encouraging independence within a supported environment.

Supportive learning environment

We place strong emphasis on creating a calm, supportive learning environment where learners feel safe, understood and able to engage meaningfully with their work.

Tutor-led sessions are kept intentionally small, with a maximum of 10 learners per group, allowing for individual attention, clearer communication and stronger relationships between tutors and learners.

Many of our tutors have experience supporting neurodiverse learners, including those who benefit from additional structure, flexible pacing, and alternative ways of engaging with content. This experience enables tutors to respond thoughtfully to different learning needs, adapt explanations, and create an environment where learners are supported without being singled out.

By combining small group sessions with patient, understanding guidance, MonteNova offers a learning space where learners can build confidence, develop independence and make steady academic progress at their own pace.

Real Life Orientation

At MonteNova Academy, learning goes beyond academic content. Our Real Life Orientation sessions are designed to equip learners with practical skills and confidence for life outside the learning space.

These sessions focus on everyday competencies that young people often need but are rarely taught in traditional academic settings. Topics may include financial basics, time management, communication skills, practical home skills, problem-solving, personal well-being, and community engagement.

Real Life Orientation is delivered through hands-on workshops, discussions and group activities, encouraging participation, collaboration and real-world application. Learners are given opportunities to practise skills, ask questions, and reflect on how these lessons apply to their own lives.

By creating space for practical learning alongside academics, MonteNova supports learners in developing independence, resilience and a stronger sense of readiness for the responsibilities of adulthood.
