How does MonteNova fit into home education?

MonteNova is a learning centre operating within the South African home education framework. Our learners are registered with Impaq, a fully accredited curriculum provider, and write their formal assessments and examinations through SACAI (South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute), a Umalusi-accredited body.

Will the learners only be working on devices?

Learners use hardcopy textbooks and workbooks alongside the online platform. As the learners physically write their exams, we think it is good for them to exercise that muscle throughout the term.

Do learners need to bring their own devices?

Yes, learners are required to bring a laptop or tablet as several subjects — including Computer Applications Technology — require access to specific software and programmes.

Is my child still going to get a matric certificate?

Yes. Our learners are registered through Impaq’s CAPS-based homeschooling programme and work towards the National Senior Certificate (NSC). The formal assessments and certification are managed through Impaq and the relevant examination authorities, ensuring that learners receive a recognised Matric Certificate upon successful completion of Grade 12.

How do I track my child’s progress throughout the term?

We have a live document called a “Progress Sheet” for each learner where the tutors track the work that is still outstanding. The Progress Sheet is shared with the parents so that you can see at any point what work your child is behind on.

My child needs academic accommodations/concessions. How does that work at MonteNova?

Accepted Answer

You will need to apply for a certificate from Impaq which states the approved concessions that your child may use. Should they need a reader/scribe for formal assessments, we will arrange that but it will be for the parent/guardian’s account.

Will I get a report at the end of each term?

Yes, Impaq issues a report each term, which we will send to you along with our comments.

Where will my child write exams?

All exams, except final NSC (Matric) exams, will be written at MonteNova under the supervision of our SACAI-certified invigilators.

Our small group environment means facilitators can identify gaps quickly and communicate missed work on the learner’s Progress Sheet. Learners are supported through structured study sessions and, where needed, one-on-one attention to help them catch up and stay on track.
